10th Annual SigEp Softball

This year’s SigEp softball tournament was again a great success. For the second year in a row Louisiana Beta raised over 10,000 dollars to benefit the American Cancer Society. Ten sororities participated in the two-day double elimination tournament. The teams were coached by brothers of SigEp who got great effort from all players. It was the ladies of Phi Mu however, who took home this year’s championship. Kappa Alpha Theta placed second and Delta Zeta finished third. The mood was festive as music played and girls munched on catered snacks in between games. Many brothers showed their creative side sporting outfits that might have rivaled a good Halloween costume. The girls proudly represented their sororities in their bid-day jerseys as they battled it out on the field. In the end, everyone had a great time all while aiding a great cause.

The Parker House

The Parker House is a home for children who have been severely abused and taken in by the state. There are currently eight children residing at the house, and SigEp during the spring semester volunteered in multiple activities with the children. Louisiana Beta hosted a dinner for the children of the Parker House where each child was paired up with a brother of SigEp. The kids got to experience first hand the delicacies of the SigEp cook, Mrs. Gert. After dinner the kids got to interact with other brothers participating in activities such as throwing the football and playing pool. Other members of Sigma Phi Epsilon got to visit the actual house where the children live and experience what it was like for these kids on a daily basis. Sigma Phi Epsilon will continue to show its love and support for the children of the Parker House in years to come.

Tight Lies Golf Tournament

Suporting Mary Bird Perkens Cancer Research Center

The Tight Lies Tour conducts 19 professional golf tournaments throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas with over 150 touring professionals competing in each tour stop. Adams Golf Tight Lies Tour once again partnered with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to put on a
fund-raiser for the Cancer Center. The Brothers of SigEp volunteered throughout the tournament, whether it be driving carts for the pros, manning the VIP tent, taking care of the score board, or even directing traffic in the parking lot. SigEp helped out wherever they could. The Tight Lies tournament turned out to be the largest fund-raiser for Mary Bird Perkens raising thousands of dollars. The volunteers of Mary Bird Perkins were appreciative of the help from SigEp and invited them back to help with next year's tournament.

Big Buddy Program

"During the Fall Semester of 2005, the Louisiana Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon formed a volunteering partnership with the Big Buddy After School Program at Dufrocq Elementry School. Each Friday, brothers from the chapter go to Dufrocq in the afternoon to volunteer. Brothers play games with the kids like kick ball and basketball. Also brothers assist children with arts and crafts and mentor the children. The men of Sig Ep who volunteer weekly have become role models to the underprivileged children who participate in the after school program. The program became such a success that Sig Ep got the LSU chapter of Chi Omega to come volunteer with us on Fridays as well. We hope that this program will continue to succeed in providing Sig Ep "Big Buddies" to children in need of a friend."
